Norwood Farmers Market has operated for the last couple of years via a contract held between M Farmers Markets Limited and Lambeth Council – this was last negotiated to operate between April and September 2010.
A set street trading fee was paid by M Farmers Markets Limited to Lambeth Council to operate the Farmers Market.
At the Farmers Market held on the 3rd Saturday of September several of the producers said that they would not be trading at any Farmers Markets at the beginning of 2011.
A set number of producers are required to reach the street trading fee required by Lambeth Council. In addition a number of producers had received parking tickets whilst unloading or loading their produce for the Farmers Market and as a result of this producers had been looking for other farmers markets to attend which had easier parking and unloading facilities. In addition other farmers markets offered cheaper stall rental with similar customer numbers to those at Norwood Farmers Market.
M Farmers Markets Limited in discussion with some of the regular producers made the difficult decision not to renew the contract with Lambeth Council to operate the Farmers Market in Norwood from October 10.
We would all like to thank the residents of Norwood who have supported the Farmers Market over the years.
We’ve made a number of friends in Norwood and apologies that we didn’t have a chance to say goodbye.
